Autumn, my dearest. The most beautiful season of all, filled with magical colours, cosy days in, blankets, layers, leaves. Surprising us with warm days in between the freezing ones, making us realise that the year is coming to an end, but we still have some time to make the most of it. Oh autumn, I adore you.
Let’s make a radical decision together, let’s randomly decide that this year we’re actually going to enjoy our seasons to the fullest (or the ones we still have left, anyway), let’s manifest our love for the world’s changing, for nature. Don’t know what to do? I have some ideas for you.
Snap, snap, snap.
Grab a camera and go out to take heaps of photos of heaps of leaves. Because we all need to do this at least once a year. Because it’s the perfect reason to dress up in layers and get ourself that pretty flask we’ve been eyeing up for a while. Because walking around and actually seeing the beauty everywhere is worth everything.
Looking good and feeling fine.
Give yourself permission to have one big shopping spree and go all out. Get every cosy jumper, all the cute tights, the basic dresses, the scarves (ooooooh baby, the scarves) and at least one pair of good boots if you don’t already own one. You’ll be so ready for the cold days, they’ll be more of a joy.
Relax to the max.
Go all out on your pamper days. No, not just two hours of taking a bath and reading for a bit – a whole day. Make yourself a scrumptious brekky and read a book in bed. Spend your whole afternoon in the bathroom making yourself feel softer than a baby’s bottom (you’re a god(dess), you know how to do this). Cook that gorgeous warming meal you’ve been saving in your foodie-Pinterest folder and go all out with laying the table, you can even go on the hunt for the perfect wine, if that’s your thing. And then, when you’re all filled up and ready for some rest, snuggle up on the sofa and watch that one film you’ve had on your iMDB list for ages (maybe even with someone you wouldn’t mind getting close with, mh?). Best. Day. Ever.
Dress up, doll.
Wear dresses. Time to put away all those pairs of hotpants and make room for the cutest dresses in town. Layer them with cardigans, scarves and top it all off with a pair of ankle booties. YES.
Fall for tea.
Go on the hunt for your new favourite tea. This is the best opportunity to try out one of those fancy schmancy teashops! Ask one of the people who work there to help you and really dig deep to find something you fall head-over-heels in love with. If that ain’t the perfect autumn romance, I don’t know what is.
Update your living space.
The days are getting colder and that means we’ll spend some more time inside, so you best make sure you feel amazing in your own home. Make your living room express who you are, fill it with memorabilia, stick cute photos to the wall, re-organise your desk, place some awesome quotes in sight. Anything to make you feel amazing wherever it is you are.
Get some new bedding.
Cosying up is one of the best things about the cold, so you better do it well. Get fluffy pillows in crazy colours, hunt down the most amazing bedspread, treat yourself to a new blanket. Snuggling time just got even better.
Master the perfect autumn meal.
We all have that one recipe in our Pinterest folder that we dearly want to make, but are afraid to try because it’s so goddamn complicated. Do it anyway, master the shit out of it and be proud as hell when you do. The time of dinner parties has begun and you’ll be ready to steal the show.
Create a new vision board.
No matter who you are or what you believe in, vision boards are amazing and everyone should have one. Being able to see what it is you love, desire and feel most is a great way to cultivate more of it. You can go totally cray and bust out glitter and pompoms to make it look pretty, or you can just stick some beautiful photos to a large piece of high quality cardboard and call it a day. As long as it makes you feel stuff, it’s perfect.
Let’s go to the mooooovies.
Make a list of all the films you want to see in the upcoming months. I’m absolutely guilty of not watching enough good films and it’s ridiculous (it’s just so easy to re-watch The Big Bang Theory instead of spending an hour choosing the perfect film to fit my mood, you know?). When you have a list somewhere near and you’re able to cross off at least one every week, you’re doing an awesome job at expanding your creative knowledge (or just at enjoying yourself thoroughly, which is what it’s all about).
Treat yourself to the perfect home outfit.
Cosy pyjamas and house slippers are a must for autumn and winter, that’s the only reason you need.
Find some new tunes.
The world is filled with so many amazing artists and limiting yourself to the ones you already know is such a shame! Spend an afternoon on Spotify, browsing all the radio-stations, playlists and related artists, who knows which gems you’ll find?
Get into journalling.
If you’re not into it already, this is the time to do it. Writing your days away, keeping a hold of all those memories, being able to read back to the cosy days of golden leaves. Oh, journalling is amazing. You can get yourself one especially for this season, embellished with autumnal colours, to make it extra special.
All Hallows Eve.
Whether you’re going to a dress up-party or not, the very least you can do is look slightly spooky for the day. Plan your outfit ahead of time and make sure you don’t have to stress out two days before (you know who you are, you beautiful procrastinator).
If none of your friends are into this, find someone new and take the time to carefully sculpt beautiful messages for them. Honestly, I think letter-writing is one of the most beautiful things in the world and everyone should have at least one penpal.
Lord, you smell good.
Find a new signature scent to rock all of the upcoming colder days with. The time of light and fruity scents is over and it has made room for the heavier, musky ones, hooray!
And that is how you do autumn like a badass/god(dess)/boss. Make the most of it, dearest.
Kisses, kisses, kisses,
